Since opening in 1961, the UANT has hosted exhibitions and concerts, seen antiwar street protests, and been a centre of progressive thought and action on the continent. The Icebox, UANT's amphitheatre, has played host to the likes of Eddie Money and Neil Diamond, Led Zeppelin and Rush. Because of the extreme distances and small size of the student population, some of these concerts were electronically transmitted live to the 8.5 m 8.900 megawatt speakers and amps which comprise the Icebox's sound system... to screaming fans.
