Looking Homeward...
William K. Hartmann's moving work from 1984's, Out of the Cradle, shows Earth in all its glory suspended in the sky, 4x the apparent size of the Moon looking from Earth. Hartmann calls this, "full Earth", as we generally say here, "full Moon."
By the 80s, the Moon missions were long gone. It didn't end the fascination. Paintings like these suggest something deeper than just a footprint, and today many nations are hearing louder calls in the collective voice of MacArthur,
"We shall return..."
But, to do what? |
