Voyage to Earth? Will the Moon in the future be a 'home' as well?

In "Conquest of the Moon", Von Braun, Willy Ley and editor Cornelius Ryan differentiated flights that would simply go and return, as these moon rockets are doing now, and those which would go and stay, the spacecraft themselves forming the first stage compartments of a continuously inhabited lunar base.
