The
International Space Station is humanity's current permemantly inhabited
space structure, with a life expectancy through 2020.
Today
the shuttle is running its final rounds to ISS. It's absence will open a gap for supplies to be delivered to
and from orbit, a gap which will be filled by the United States' purchase
of Russian Soyuz transport services
through at least
2013.
