Nature and technology ...
In this wonderful picture by Pamela Lee in the 1980s, a large SSP collector brings power to America, which then sells it on the international market, thereby ending the siphoning of money to the Middle East and beginning siphoning it to the Middle West where it belongs. Sound good, Detroit?
In the scene, astronauts operate near the solar array. The great correlary to SSP for people mindful of the future is that the emplacement of new generation collectors (with existing technology), will not only help solve the energy crisis, but simultaneously embed an infrastructure that offers a reason to further our presence in orbit.
That's right, doing SSP is the way to facilitate permenant human expansion into our solar neighborhood. |
