The Jetson's also made people feel good about the future.
No matter which way it is looked at, technology will be needed. In the global warming debate, there is in fact this one bit of common ground:
1. To those who claim global warming is unstoppable and catastrophic, like Gaia hypothesis formulator James Lovelock, the only POSSIBILITY of saving any semblance of what we have now is to dramatically improve our technology in weather control and G.W. mitigation. The Kyoto Protocol isn't going to do it.
2. To those who claim human-induced global warming is minimal but that the natural cycle is going on, the same effects are on the horizon and the same solution too.
3. To those who believe human beings do induce global warming quite a lot, and are angry about nations' and corporations' lack of cooperation on stopping it, the SAME effects will be felt and the same solution, too.
4. To those who claim global warming isn't happening, technological improvement is simply a positive step toward a better future.
That is what space development does for us, and animation like the Jetson's is a great medium to show it off in, but there is one program that stands head and shoulders above them all. |
