Back to the Europa of the 80s...
Using Europa's resources is the theme of this Ron Miller work which appeared in 1990's, In the Stream of Stars, and, actually, the most interesting part of this painting is that the astronauts here are checking seismologically for the liquid water ocean under the surface.
Today it is thought that Europa has a 62 mile thick layer of H2O, mostly ice but with an ocean separating the ice from the surface. Ocean? It means warm water. It means the possibility of life, like in the dark and dank crevases of Earth's own depths, where the organisms don't rely on ANY sunlight. It also means Howard Bloom's favorite critters, bacteria colonies, could be there. |
