Shostakovich's Symphony 11, The Year 1905 is a milestone in music, albeit an understated one.
He said in music what he could not say in words, to express hope, horror and misguided idealism.
This piece moves one in a way difficult to achieve and hard to explain, as did those heady days in the year 1905.
